Harry I. Dalton Trail

One of the two trails through Jewel of the Creek Preserve, the Harry I. Dalton trail, is heavily used. After spring rains and the receding flood of Cave Creek, tender grass grows everywhere. Soon after seeding, the desert heat will turn this grass into tinder, easily ignited by any dropped cigarette butt. Black skeletons of the last conflagration cast shadows across the trail.

Tough Guy

With drooping limbs and one bud, this old grandpa saguaro stands like a body builder giving a thumbs-up gesture. A wet winter with freezing temperatures could have killed it, but instead gave it a pose of strength and affirmation. - Nancy Boudreau

Peaks Above Apache Trail

Backlit peaks towering above the Apache Trail, just south of where it crosses Fish Creek in the Superstition Mountains, all part of the larger Tonto National Forest.
